James Harold Cape of Ada left his earthly home on June 23, 2020 at the Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 14 days. James was born in Stratford, OK to the late Houston Cape and Elizabeth (Fairchild) Cape on July 9, 1942. He lived most of his life in the Stratford and Ada area.
He attended school in Latta. Upon finishing high school, James joined the United States Navy and served his country in Guam until May of 1965.
On November 22, 1968, James married the love of his life, Hazel Chastain in Gene Autry, a union that would last 51 years. From this union, one child was born, James Dwayne Cape. The couple made Ada there home, where James served on the Ada City Fire Department for 27 years before retirement. Along with being a firefighter, James also did work as a machinist for Red River Research and also worked as a welder making metal buildings.
James was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Happyland Freewill Baptist Church in Ada. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Firefighters Association. James enjoyed being a rancher and loved working his cattle.
James was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.
He leaves behind to forever cherish his memory, wife, Hazel Cape of the home and a son, James Dwayne Cape.
Graveside services to honor James' life will be Friday, June 26, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Provence Cemetery in Dickson.
