Thelma Cleo (Gunn) Kizer passed away February 9, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas. Thelma was born July 19, 1941 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to the late Travis Gunn and Faye (Elkins) Gunn. She was raised in Johnston county. Thelma attended school at Fillmore.
She later married Cleburn JC Kizer. They made their home in Texas and lived there until Cleburn’s death. Thelma moved back to Johnston county with her children in 1978 and then back to Texas. In 2018, she moved to Kansas to be near family.
Thelma was of the Church of the Nazarene faith. She had a love for crocheting and enjoyed cooking. Spending time with her grandchildren was always a special time to Thelma. She worked for Texas A&M College for several years as their custodian. She enjoyed cleaning and always had a clean house. Thelma was good at what she did. So much so that when she retired, her former employer kept asking her to come back. She went back for a little while before finally retiring.
Thelma was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, brothers, Ross Gunn, Bill Gunn, Louie Gunn, and Elmer Gunn; Sisters, Orlue Lowe, Sue Adams, and Wanda Drewry; grandson, Bruce Needham, great-granddaughter, Katelyn McKibben.
Thelma leaves behind to cherish her memory sons, Jeffery Kizer and wife, Chris of Galena, Ks and Lloyd Berry; daughters, Virginia Needham and David of Franklin, Ks and Tonita Higgins; Special cousin, Freda Reid; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
Graveside service will be held Saturday February 20, 2021 at Condon Grove Cemetery at 3 p.m.
